According to Wikipedia:”The Phi Beta Kappa Society was formed as a forum to discuss topics not covered in the regimented classical education of universities of the era, lending the name literary fraternity to its type. Most students were well-versed in Greek, Latin, and Hebrew; Phi, Beta, and Kappa were the initials of a secret Greek motto, Philosophia Biou Kybernētēs = “Love of learning [is] the guide of life”. In addition to its secrecy and selection of a Greek name, it also introduced a code of high ideals, secret rituals and handclasps, membership badges, and oaths that characterized later Greek letter societies.”
1. The letter should be one page in length.2. It should tell us why, specifically, you believe that you should be offered membership.3. It should tell us what you have to offer the sorority.4. It should give us an explanation as to why you want to be a member of our sorority.5. You can leave out some of the more obvious things, like what school u attend.6. You should approach writing it like you are in an interview; think of some of the questions that would matter to the the interviewer (above mentioned points) and answer them in the letter.7. The letter should open you up to the chapter members.I wouldn’t suggest sending an interest letter over the internet. You include it your application.http://www.aka1908.com

Hello! It is acceptable for a non active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha to write a letter of reference; however, I do not think that they should mention that they are a member (since they are inactive). I know of a young lady whose reference letter was from a non active member who didn’t mention that she was an AKA. She is now my Soror (has been for 3 years). Also, I just suggest that they do not mention that they are members of Alpha Kappa Alpha. That is just my opinion.Best regards in your quest to become a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated!
what are you talk about? I can’t answer this question

Hello I am not a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Just a quick question: can you use both letters? If you only need one I would suggest using the letter that the member of Alpha Kappa Alpha wrote for you. I feel that it is a better reflection to have a letter of recommendation written from a member of the organization you are trying to become a member of. May God bless you with your endeavors. I hope you do not become offended that I answered your question (it seems that many of my fellow sisterfriends become offended when fellow sisterfriends respond to their questions, as we are only trying to help each other).http://groups.yahoo.com/group/womenofaspiration/

Discretion is most important among your peers, though generally keeping your business to yourself is certainly a good idea. It’s fine to tell your references why they’re writing letters for you. It’s also fine for them to say that you would be an excellent addition to the sorority–it’s their opinion and the reason they’re recommending you. Just make sure they also include the reasons why you would be an excellent addition and give concrete examples of your actions that have given them such a high opinion of you.

“Alpha”, the first letter of the Greek alphabet, is considered the beginning of a series or sequence; “the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end”. Therefore, when they ask you to use the Alpha letters it means just the First letter.
