How about going as Dumbo? Wear grey sweats, and then fashion ears and a trunk out of either cheap grey material or from grey cardboard. Just make sure that the ears are huge.

Well the college program experience is definitely worth it! Not many internship programs out there allow college student pay (even if it is low), housing, transportation, free admission into all of their parks, and discounts on all merchandise and restaurants on property! I did the college program in 2001. They paid $6 and hour. No we didn’t make much, but I had a wonderful time! I made lifelong friends, got to network with company execs, and even met my husband there! So if you are a college student, the WDW College program is the best way to work for Disney. You wouldn’t be a character though – that is done seperately and you have to audition for it. Cast members in the parks make about $7.50 an hour now and characters and entertainers make around $11-$14 an hour, depending on what is involved. A friend of mine was Pocahontas. She had her own show at Animal Kingdom, where she played with real animals and sang. She was paid $12 an hour back in 2001. I’m sure they pay a few dollars more an hour now.But is the getting in for free that makes it all worth it. A disney World vacation can cost people thousands of dollars. You can work there and go anytime you like absolutely free! They even give you free passes about twice a year to give to your friends or family!Feel free to contact me if you have any other questions about the college program or working for Disney in general. I’d be more than happy to answer them!http://www.wdwcollegeprogram.comMy email: disneymickeyvacation@yahoo.com

Depending on your dining preferences I can think of a number of venues. Some of them will depend on if you have park access and also where you are staying. Here’s a few:Boma – Animal Kingdom Lodge – Buffet, so you have lots of selection – African based food – Wander around and check out the animals afterKona Cafe – Poly – Tropical themed american food – Fireworks after on the beachTony’s Tavern – Magic Kingdom – Italian – Fireworks after in parkCoral Reef – Epcot – Seafood – You can watch the divers and the fish while you eat.Check out http://www.alears.net‘s dining section, they have menus for all the disney restauarants.

Ok, let’s answer in the order you are asking…1) Start planning your vacation now, reservations are already being accepted up to and including 12/31/09. Depending on when you want to go prices vary significantly. If your dates are flexible you can save a pretty penny. And, Disney is now enforcing a 45 day rule that your vacation has to be paid in full by 45 days prior to your vacation.December 1st – 7th = $554December 22nd – 28th =$945This shows the significant price difference for 6 nights at the Pop Century resort just a few weeks apart. Please note: ticket prices do NOT vary with the season, ticket prices are what they are.2) To save money stay in a value resort (All-Star resorts or Pop Century). Figure out how many days you need and buy the tickets when you book your hotel room. You get little perks when you book both together. Don’t pay for options on the ticket, like water parks that you won’t use. The park hopper option is great if you want to go from one park to another, but it is not a necessity… you can exit and re-enter the same park as many times as you want during the day.3) You can tell him whenever you want that he is going to Disney and to see Mickey Mouse… I don’t know how well he will comprehend though that it isn’t for a year plus still.4) You don’t have to watch Disney movies if you don’t want to. It isn’t required, there aren’t quizzes or anything, but if you enjoy the movies, pop one in and watch to your heart’s content.I recommend a day or two, at least for the Magic Kingdom. The Magic Kingdom has the most rides in it for his age range. Epcot and Hollywood Studios aren’t really “child” friendly parks. Yes, you will both have a good time there, and there are things that he can go on, but not as many rides to choose from as the Magic Kingdom. Likewise, Animal Kingdom is more “adult” rides, but I may be biased I don’t like Animal Kingdom. I have been there twice, and will not go again… looooong lines, saw 0 animals on safari ride, and too much walking. Just my opinion though.

We always rent a car. The quickest way to get there is the “B” (Bee line) toll road. Costs a buck for toll, takes about an hour and 15 minutes from Orlando to the Space Center. Nice ride, freeway. Check your maps to get on this road. It starts near the airport.

There’s always Sea WorldIt has a great new waterpark thats kid-friendly, good rides and attractions for kids, and they might learn something while they’re at it.

The Park Hopper option can be added to your ticket for a flat fee, which is the same regardless of the number of days you have on your ticket (1-10). It allows you to visit more than one Disney Park on the same day. Without it, you must select only one park per day. Many people want this option, but I’ve found that I actually typically only visit one park per day anyway, so on my last visit to Walt Disney World, I intentionally did NOT purchase the Park Hopper, to see if it would negatively affect my experience in any way. It did not.

  9. mommywissa - January 7, 2011 at 4:10 pm

Yes, it is possible to get the dining plan but without the park hopper, you have to make sure that you are going to the park you have reservations for dinner for. I would never go to disney without making dining reservations ahead of time. You’d never get to eat. Reservations can be made 90 days out.

Get involved with some local community theater group. You can learn a LOT about stagecraft from the production of plays and events. Building props, lighting, special effects are all used in these productions. That’s the kind of experience the ride designers at Disney have. There is no “ready made” course for building a “standard” working volcano, or convincing building fires, earthquakes, rainstorms or animatronic figures. These have to be thought out, designed and built by people who learn all kinds of different associated crafts.

One great thing about the Disney Visa is that if you book your package through Disney (or a licensed travel agent) and stay on property, you will get 6 months 0% interest on that charge. And you don’t have to make the final payment until 45 days before the trip, so that is really nice. I would suggest getting two rooms at Pop Century (or one of the All Stars if Pop is full). They are better than the family suites because you get 4 real beds and 2 bathrooms. You should be able to get each of them for less for around $80/night so $160 total/night. The benefits of staying on property are nice as well. Bus service to all the locations and special access hours to the theme parks that only Disney resort guests can attend. If it’s your first time to WDW I’d suggest getting Hopper passes to let you maximize your theme park experience.

Take the bus transportation from Downtown Disney. This way, you can park your car for free and take the busses everywhere else. When you arrive at the bus loading area (located near the end of Downtown Disney’s Rainforest Cafe), you’ll see different loading stations for different places. Wait under the sign of the place you wish to board and you’re good to go! Just keep in mind that these busses also make stops along the way, so it may take a while. Plan way in advance to get up early. If you would like help planning for your next trip or if you would just like to read up on some fun tips and ideas that are updated monthly, visit my Disney Vacation Services Website, at:http://im-all-ears-disney-vacation-services.blogspot.com/Have a great time!

My family went to Disney World last year on Dec. 28th and left on Jan. 3rd. We will never do that again. It was so busy that we could hardly move at some points. The lines were long to ride anything. My father is disabled and it took us 45 minutes to get from the front gate to the castle (normally 5 to 8 min. walk) at the magic kingdom. Talking to cast members, they said the magic kingdom will stop letting people in at 10am because the park will reach capacity. That was from the week before Christmas til after news years. If you have never been to Disney World, think about changing your plans til a week after new years. If you go when you say you are going, you might be able to experience 10 to 20 percent of the rides and shows. That’s if your lucky. Best of luck because you will need it!!!!!

$200 up front and then u have up to 45 days before your check in date to have it paid off. It is really nice that they do this. I always book about 6 months in advance that gives me 3 months to pay off and then 3 months to save for spending money and gas money etc. If you want the dining package they are offering free dining for reservations aug-sept but you must book by june 29. OH yeah and you will also save money if you go during a family members bday. B/c you book a package deal you won’t get free admission but the birthday guest can get a gift card worth the price of the ticket to use towards merchandise, or you can get a free admission ticket good for 1 yr or a fast pass good for a party of five. Enjoy your trip. Hope it is magical.

Since you are taking a 5 year old, don’t even consider skipping the Magic Kingdom. In my opinion, that is where the Disney magic lives. On a cool morning you take the ferry boat from the Ticket and Transportation Center across the lake to the Magic Kingdom. The castle gets closer and the excitement builds. You get through the turnstiles and wait for the opening ceremony. The train pulls into the station and an assortment of Disney Characters get off to welcome you to the Magic Kingdom. Then they open the gates and you walk right down Main Street USA. Smell the cookies baking. See the castle in the distance. It is really wonderful.Note that you do need to have a plan when you get there. If you spend 30 or 40 minutes milling around on main street you will get a bad start. Just know what you want to do first and stroll over to that attraction. No need to run. Just know where you are going, and go there.Animal kingdom is another good choice. Then again, they are all good choices. For the third day I would probably pick Hollywood Studios. It will be less ride oriented, but there are lots of good shows to see. Since this park is oriented around the shows, make sure you pick up a schedule at the front of the park. One thing to remember. Ice cream can cure almost anything bad that can happen there.Have fun. Wish I was going. The Magic Kingdom with a 5 year old can be a really neat experience.

Yes, there is a big difference. They are really both the same resort, the Contemporary resort. The Contemporary itself was one of the first WDW resorts, it was there when Disney World opened, and it still is today. It is a theme of modern contemporary styles and is a very enjoyable place to stay (I am staying there myself later this year). Disney’s Bay Lake Towers was just created over the past few years, and finished about a year ago. This new building is not open to everyone, but is for only Disney Vacation Club members. Disney Vacation Club is like a time share, but has many more benefits. You buy into a home resort, such as mine of Old Key West, but now there are spots open at Animal Kingdom Lodge, Saratoga Springs and Bay Lake Towers. Most Disney Vacation Club resorts today have separate buildings for regular and DVC members to stay in, like the Bay Lake Towers/Contemporary resort. In your case, you will have to stay at the main Contemporary building, since you are not a Disney Vacation Club Member. The stay is similar in both places, but I myself find that the Main building itself would be better, as you have the monorail right near by (it passes through the resort building). If you are looking for a great place to eat, I suggest the Wave right at the contemporary, which serves modern food and you will not leave hungry. The Contemporary is a great place to stay because it has great and easy access to both Magic Kingdom and Epcot by taking a monorail. I hope you have a magical and memorable vacation. If you have any other questions about your Disney vacation, please feel free to contact me by email or message. Have a magical day!
