My family went to Disney World last year on Dec. 28th and left on Jan. 3rd. We will never do that again. It was so busy that we could hardly move at some points. The lines were long to ride anything. My father is disabled and it took us 45 minutes to get from the front gate to the castle (normally 5 to 8 min. walk) at the magic kingdom. Talking to cast members, they said the magic kingdom will stop letting people in at 10am because the park will reach capacity. That was from the week before Christmas til after news years. If you have never been to Disney World, think about changing your plans til a week after new years. If you go when you say you are going, you might be able to experience 10 to 20 percent of the rides and shows. That’s if your lucky. Best of luck because you will need it!!!!!
The best vegetarian buffet would be Crystal Palace (Magic Kingdom) http://www.allears.net/din/vegtsparks.htm …I’ve been there a couple of times and the food is great with a wide variety to suit everyone’s palate…and Pooh and Friends come out for a visit…really cute! …Just one word of advice, don’t go there on a weekend (especially Saturday) cuz it is PACKED! …and possibly “1900 Park Fare” (Grand Floridian), “Boma” (Animal Kingdom Lodge), and “Tusker House” (Animal Kingdom theme park) may be fine for you as well…When you call to make your reservations (407) WDW-DINE, and you will need to make reservations cuz they book up fast, let them know you are vegetarian and they may be able to give special recommendations. …AND, the website allears.net I listed above, if you click “The Menus!” on the left side of the page you’ll get an idea of the restaurant items and prices of all Disney World restaurants. But, the buffets to avoid would be Liberty Tree Tavern, Whispering Canyon, and Trail’s End…all these restaurants are big on meat!Side note: You may get more responses if you post this question in the “Travel>United States>Orlando” section of Y!A….a lot of die hard Disney fans like myself go there to ask/answer anything pertaining to Disney World.Have a great time…can’t wait to go again!
OMG!!! At Universal Studios, they took down the Back to the Future ride and recently replaced it with the Simpsons ride. I was there when they tore it down in April. I was so sad. I tookm tons of pics. Well, anyways I hope I helped.
Between Christmas and New Year’s is the busiest time of year at Disney World. It is also the most expensive. Spring Break isn’t as crowded because not every school is out at the same time, so families vacation all throughout March and April. The week between Christmas and New Year’s is an off week for all schools as well as many smaller places like doctor’s offices, dentist’s offices, etc. There are also a lot of day trippers during these times, and especially this year since the holidays fall on a Friday giving a lot of people a 3 day weekend.Make sure you arrive at the parks early and plan to spend the day in the park. The parks can and do reach full capacity. Also, grab your FastPasses early… they can run out by 10:00am if not earlier depending on the park, if it is Extra Magic Hours, etc.
its a tough call because we don’t know what he likes. I live about 15 minutes away from the park, have an annual pass and i am the official tour guide for my family and friends and i have seen kids that loved live music, others wanted to shop and some just wanted to go on rides. so i will list top rides depending on taste.adventure lover that loves excitement coaster.Magic Kingdom: the three mountains (space, Splash and Big Thunder)Epcot: Test Track, Mission Space.Hollywood Studios (MGM’s new name) Rock and Roller Coaster, tower of Terror and Star Tours. (Lights Motor, Action is a show but i still include it in this.)Animal Kingdom: Kali River Rapids, Expedition Everest, Dinasour and Primeval Swirl.Loves Animals… Animal Kingdom. play special attention to the two walking tours (some people miss them) of animals as well as the safari ride.Likes live music: Epcot has the most shows but animal kingdom has two great shows (festival of the lion king and Finding nemo)Likes movies: Pirates (at MK), Great Movie ride and Back Lot Tour (DHW) these are just some pointers. i would suggest to try as many things as possible. you never know what will might enjoy.
I’m the same way. You can hang out reading DISboards ( http://www.disboards.com ) all day long! You will constantly learn something new. It is the largest online community for Disney Nerds. I also like http://www.touringplans.com. They have crowd calendars and tons of touring plans and a great blog. To get all the data, you have to get a subscription (annual). The subscription fee is 50% off if you have any of the 2010 Unofficial guidebooks.
Well, Disney World really only has 4 non-water related parks: Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, and Epcot.I liked Hollywood Studios because of all of the action and shows. Magic Kingdom is great and Epcot is really nice for the older crowd, in my opinion (although I really enjoyed it when I was young also). I would say go to the Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Epcot. You should at least try Hollywood Studios and Epcot since you had not been there before.Hopefully you’ll remember which one of the other 2 that you like better (Animal Kingdom or Magic Kingdom). So that’s my opinion on the Disney World Parks – I’m not sure if you are open to other Orlando parks, but if you are, I would also recommend SeaWorld (especially if you enjoy rollercoasters and marine life) and Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure (especially if you like well themed thrill rides).
Since you are taking a 5 year old, don’t even consider skipping the Magic Kingdom. In my opinion, that is where the Disney magic lives. On a cool morning you take the ferry boat from the Ticket and Transportation Center across the lake to the Magic Kingdom. The castle gets closer and the excitement builds. You get through the turnstiles and wait for the opening ceremony. The train pulls into the station and an assortment of Disney Characters get off to welcome you to the Magic Kingdom. Then they open the gates and you walk right down Main Street USA. Smell the cookies baking. See the castle in the distance. It is really wonderful.Note that you do need to have a plan when you get there. If you spend 30 or 40 minutes milling around on main street you will get a bad start. Just know what you want to do first and stroll over to that attraction. No need to run. Just know where you are going, and go there.Animal kingdom is another good choice. Then again, they are all good choices. For the third day I would probably pick Hollywood Studios. It will be less ride oriented, but there are lots of good shows to see. Since this park is oriented around the shows, make sure you pick up a schedule at the front of the park. One thing to remember. Ice cream can cure almost anything bad that can happen there.Have fun. Wish I was going. The Magic Kingdom with a 5 year old can be a really neat experience.
