Well it sounds like a raspberry. Or at least a member of the rubus family. If you left the growth from last year, you should see flowers or fruit this year if it is a blackberry, dewberry, or raspberry (or hybrid). Other, wilder, members of the family like salmonberry and thimbleberry might not produce fruit in most years.

Aha…you have the infamous garden thistle growing in your yard!!! They will grow taller and taller if you let them but don’t let them because once the thistle produces the pretty purple flowers, it goes to seed and you know what is next!!! MORE THISTLES!! These can be killed with ROUNDUP or you can dig them up being very careful to get the taproot. I would probably go with the Roundup if you can keep from getting the Roundup on other nearby plants or grasses. Roundup will kill everything but it will also do away with those awful thistles. There are other weed killers that you can use that won’t kill your grass, but since we don’t know what kind of grass your lawn is, I would suggest going to the local CO OP (Farmers Co-Operative) in your area and ask them the best thing to kill thistle and other weeds like that and won’t hurt your grass. I am sure there are several good products out there that will work. Good luck to you!!!!

Oh fart! This is quite a sooting situation…well no worries. My name is Elb and I’m here to help!Well first of all i would try doing a big stinky tooting fart so the flower stickers all die. Then throw rice burritos at them so they dont know whether to go to Hong Kong or Mexico. that way the sock will have no problem with the fact your feet smell like a cows big butt!

if you want to cover the whole bike, you will be hard-pressed to beat http://www.trackwraps.com They’ll print SHEETS of any design you want. You can cut out the flowers, or do the whole bike. The biggest advantage with trackwraps is that the adhesive is durable enough to last for years, but is also removable without leaving any residue or damaging the paint. (kind of a good thing if you ever plan on selling that bike to a guy).the other option is http://www.dcdecals.net. They have done all the numbers, pin-striping, and sponsor logos on my race bike. send them an email, with a picture of what you’d like, and they’ll give you a price quote. I can’t imagine a few flowers would cost more than $30 or so, but their vinyl is made to be more of a permanent application. either will be good options.

You should start by preparing your ground well. This year you may have to just work on rock and weed removal. If you have alot of rocks as you remove them from the areas you want to turn into lawn or flower beds use them to define the borders of these areas. They can be quite attractive this way. Also almost all “dirt” can be inproved by adding compost. You did not say where you are but if you are in the USA most counties have an Extension service associated with a state University that will do a soil test for you for a small fee so you will know what you have and what you need to add to make it better. They also usually have Master Gardener volunteers who are local experts trained to assist the home gardener solve these problems. I would suggest you contact your county extension service and ask if these services are available. They would be able to advise you on types of lawn grass that will do well in your area too. While you are working on improving your existing soil, large containers will often be a great way to grow flowers and even some vegetables.
