Help with scrapbooking.....?
I have been wanting to start a scrapbook for a long time now, but every time I get all of my stuff out I just sit there and stare at everything!!I like to think that I'm pretty Long Scrapbooking artistic..but need a hard push sometimes! Would it be better for me to "create" a scrapbook completely and then insert my pictures?Do all of my scrapbooks need to follow the same "theme" (family, dogs, school, etc.)?How do I know what products are necessary to buy, and what I shouldn't ?If anyone has any good advice, or a good website, or anything that could get me, I would really appreciate it!

Go to CropMom at http://www.cropmom.com and create your own layouts there. CropMom is free to use. You can upload your photos, add text and choose from thousands of embellishments for your scrapbook pages.Once you’ve made 20 layouts, purchase them in high resolution from CropMom (you can buy a bundle of 20 layouts). Now, you can have them printed anywhere, such as Snapfish or Shutterfly or PhotoWorks. The beauty of creating the layouts at CropMom is that they’re YOUR layouts, entirely personalized and customized the way you want them to be, as opposed to templates that are offered by the printing companies. CropMom does not print them, just lets you make the layouts. You can also print your layouts at home on your printer.
I use any of the acid free glue, price does not come into it as they are pretty much all the same IMO, I would not use that Elmer’s glue as I do not think it is acid free, it will state it CLEARLY on the out side if it is…………….even the dollar stores carry acid and lichen free glue.As I am a bit ham fisted when it comes to glue I find that the dots are pretty good, I get mine from Creative memories also have used the double sided tape.If you have just started I would maybe go to one of the very cheap classes where MOST scrappers will let you have a quick try if they are using something different so you can see what works best for you.regards and good luck with your book………..remember if you like it then it is GOOD no matter what…………..I like mine very simple but am not very artistic.

Well, if I was blessed with my own scrapbooking room, it would be organized as follows:Paper: organized by size then by color or theme.Embellishments: Organized by type, then color, then size.Tools: cutting, piercing, clamping, etc. organized by most used.A area organized with the events or photos I want to scrapbook by importance or prevalence. Ink’s organized by type then color.Stamps organized by theme.A spot for my inspirations.A spot for my works in progress.I’m sure I can think of more! lol. But most important, it would all be in place where I felt effortless utilizing all of my supplies. And optimizing my creativity. And right in the middle of it all, I’d have a huge table, where the smaller tools were (tweezers, glue, scissors). While I don’t know how much space you have or even your style, here are some links that I’ve been looking at and lusting over, wishing I had a spot to use this advice! Hope this helps you. and Happy Scrapbooking!http://vintageindie.typepad.com/vintage_indie/2009/03/spring-organzing-scrapbook-room-with-contributing-editor-elizabeth-young.htmlhttp://www.home-organizing-ideas.com/organizing-a-scrapbook-room.htmlAnd this one is the most beautiful and inspiring:http://www.kevinandamanda.com/photos/scraproom/new/Good luck!
Hi there,Acid free scrapbook supplies will ensure that your pages will last as long as possible without wearing down or aging. However…I have made some scrapbook pages and even hand made cards without Acid Free supplies that have lasted well over 15 years! So you don’t need to recreate your beautiful works of art…but I would suggest that you take some steps to protect them (now that you know that the lifespan might be less). Here’s what you can do:1) Purchase some page protectors to keep them contained and away from harm.2) Make digital copies (scans) of them down at your local printers – just so you have a back up of them.*And consider purchasing some acid free supplies down the road (if you are indeed an avid scrapbooker now).
If you have a Hobby Lobby, AC Moore, or Michael’s then I would check them out. Sign up online and you can get coupons mailed to you. I would look up “craft stores in Austin” in the google search bar. You should get quite a few. Scrapbooking is a very big thing now, so almost all craft stores should have supplies.
Profits can be really good but it takes a lot of time to run this kind of business on your ownhttp://suppliers.50webs.org
Wow, that was a long time ago (maybe what, 4-5 years?). Now there’s all SORTS of cool stuff! Brads, eyelets, inked/distressed edges, photo turns (you know, the little metal pieces that hold your photo in the back of the frame), ribbon, charms, and a ton more stuff. One good idea to see what’s hot & new is to look for magazines like “Creating Keepsakes” and “Memory Makers.”Of course, you don’t NEED to just get into what’s “hot,” I’d much prefer to do stuff *I* like rather than just go by what’s on the magazine covers.
tell him all the smushy lovey dovey things, i like love things it makes me feel loved and warm inside make sure you get the most out of your time together and enjoy yourselves. Ps if he has told you he loves you its a good idea to tell him you love him too, you could also do a spider diagram or whatever the hell it is now with his name in the middle and all the things about him you love, it helps if its true and he should apreciate any effort for him after all i am a man an i do like to know im love, good luck with the whole meeting up thing
What a sweet idea! Here are some ideas for you: *Interview other friends and include their thoughts on your best friend.*Include what makes your friend so special to you.*That was then, this is now page-highlighting your friendship from the beginning until now*Include pictures of your room, home, backpack, car/bike, cell phone, locker… that way she can still be part of your life*Do a funny faces page-this is reserved for all the photos where someone is captured mid-smile, or yawning or closing their eyes (it makes a funny page)*Include a likes/dislikes page*Include what’s popular now (music, clothes, styles, etc)*Include what things cost now (gas, milk, hamburgers, etc)*How did you meet? That could be a fun page*Pages highlighting fun things you have done, things you should have gotten in trouble for, trips you have taken, etc*If you friend does sports, don’t forget to include pages on those too!Once you have your “sections” broken down, you can embellish with the appropriate stickers or die cuts if you like. Don’t forget to journal! That is the second most important thing after the pictures!
You can make your book as simple or elaborate as you wish. I would try to come up with a basic page design and make all the pages similar. Just use the same paper and it will flow nicely. This will help in making the book go faster when assembling. This is just a start. Good luck and have fun! (Your friend will LOVE it!) Hope this helps you some.
You can find some great deals at these places:WalmartDollar Tree or any dollar storeshttp://www.OrientalTrading.com – this is online and catalog order. I order from these guys all the time you get a large quantity of supplies at a very low cost. Just request them to send you a catalog. They have many different themes.Targethttp://www.stampinup.com – go here and request to be contacted by a demonstrator and maybe even through a party. You will get free items for the party and discounts on products. I use this company often for my scrapbooking supplies. HINT: Be sure to tell the demonstrator you want to have a themed party.MiachelsAny discount store will help you find cheap and quality products you can use for your scrapbook. Discount stores are great places to find great bargains. I get most of my scrapbooking supplies from these types of stores.Another great place to find awesome deals is by checking out yard sales and such. I always find wonderful scrapbooking treasures at these sales. Here are a few other great places I use every so often online:http://www.cutting-mats.net/scrapbook-ki…http://www.ScrapLove.com/storehttp://www.photomix.comhttp://www.AddictedToScrapbooking.comhttp://www.memoryvilla.comhttp://www.just4funcrafts.com/http://www.premierscrapbooking.com/I look for quality and quantity at a great price.I like to buy bulk and try to find a wholesaler so you don’t spend to much and you usually get more for your money then most stores.
What’s wrong with taking a break? I have spents months away from my sb stuff just bc I was busy or to pursue other interests. No reason to feel bad about that. And yes I am like you when I get into it, I’m really into it. I will go 12 hours straight sometimes just cranking it out.If you want to get back into it my advise is go out and get something new to scrapbook. Take a little trip or maybe just a hike and take same photos of something different that you haven’t scrapbooked before. Maybe your just tired of working on the same type of projects.
Tedious? NO! My scrapping buddies and I can sit for 3 days straight working on our albums. You could try making greeting cards. Get a magazine like Cardmaker or Stamp It, and a couple rubber stamps, some black ink and some colored pencil, and you can really impress your friends with your amazing creativity. You might prefer something like an exercise or dancing class though.
I have a ton of stickers! Last year when I went to the Pleasanton Scrapbook Expo I saw the “Scrap Rack” organizational system and thought it could work for me so I bought it. I have to tell you that I LOVE it! It does not take up much room, it’s expandable and it comes with a binder so you can take what you need where ever yo are going. I highly recommend it. Not too expensive either.
Party scrapbooking is always harder to get your name out then having a physical store that people go into. You might want to try a couple of the following ideas. If you have children in school, contact the teacher and ask if she would host a teacher scrapbook party. Explain that you are starting your business, and would like to introduce EliLola Scrapbooking, Inc. to the staff. All she needs to do is provide her class room, and have the other teachers bring some supplies i.e. scissors, glue stick, paper cutter, and two pictures, you get the idea. Then using EliLola paper and embellishments, make a mini scrapbook. All it takes is one 12×12 paper cut in half per person. If your interested, just email me for the directions. They are easy, fast, and cheap to make.At our local elementary school, parents can send flyers home with the kids. Check and see if you can do that also. Pre-schools have a built in product…children. Contact the local pre-schools and see if you can do flyers, maybe a make and take, or put up a 12×12 scrapbook page, using some of their pictures, to peak interest. Another source is church. There is bound to be someone who is interested in scrapbooking. If the church has a women’s group, check to see if they might be interested in hosting a party or at least allow you to demo your products.Kids sporting events are also a place to tap, as well as dance classes, and gymnastic classes.I hope this helps. If you need the mini book directions you can email me at caryann2@earthlink.net and leave mini scrapbook in the subject line.Good Luck, Cary
Ahh.. NO. Throw out all those metal posts and go buy Pioneer Snap Lock. They replace all posts in post bound albums. They are wonderful to use, easy to get in and out, to add pages. Your pages lay flat when your album is open. And they can be expanded to hold a lot of pages. They should run $6 or under. I have found them at all scrapbook stores and at JoAnn fabrics.
Is there a reason why you are putting pressure on yourself to get these accomplished in a hurry? I know we feel time is running out and life can be short but a scrapbook is something to be savored. Time spent creating one is just as precious as the memories that fill it. You can give it to your child as a high school graduation gift and if your still not done- a college graduation gift, house warming gift, or wedding gift. I say slow down and create something special for your second child as well.
I think you have a great idea. Here is where it’s the gift that really counts! I agree with the other answer that you shouldn’t get too involved with more than one ‘technique’ but rather focus on one and your book will have a nice look to it. I’m assuming (you know how that goes!) that you already have photos so if you were to stop at any store that deals with scrapbooking they could really point you in a solid direction. If I owned a store…I would suggest you buy a paper cutter ($10 – $30), album 12×12 or 8×8 depending on number of photos ($10-$30), coordinating paper at .50 to $1.00 a sheet or they even have packs of paper that already coordinate. And make sure you go with a quality adhesive that is made for scrap booking. It isn’t all that expensive and one package will easily do your album. Then once you get a color theme…you will see many different ways to embellish your pages. From stickers to stamping, glitter to attachments. Journaling is where the heart is though and will give your book a personal feel. Good luck and have fun.
decoupage would probably be the best thing to use. I recently glued scrapbook paper to a wood block- I just used a glue stick to stick it in place, then I brushed elmer’s white glue over the top of it to seal it down. It seems to have worked very well. I did about 4-5 coats of glue, letting the block dry between each coat. It created a glossy finish. I’m very pleased with the final results. Decoupage is better quality, I’m sure, and better than white glue, but the glue worked just fine for me.
